Apples and autumn breezes herald the arrival of fall across the Upper Midwest. Given the abundance those with apple trees experience, apple recipes are a necessary accompaniment.

Though apple pie immediately comes to mind, many bakers and cooks love to experiment with other ways to use up an ingredient (much like end-of-summer zucchini and leftover holiday turkey). Apple muffins, apple strudel and apple crisp are other common and delicious vehicles for delivering the warming flavors and aromas of apples, as well as cinnamon — the apple’s frequent companion.
