The Odisha Government announced a 24-hour internet shutdown in Cuttack on Sunday (October 5, 2025) following sporadic clashes between two communities and the police during Durga Puja idol immersion.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi appealed for peace to preserve the brotherhood that was the unique hallmark of the city.

Clashes broke out between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday (October 4, 2025) near Haathi Pokhari in Daraghabazar area when an immersion procession was heading towards Debigara on the banks of the Kathajodi river, police said.

According to officials, the violence erupted after some locals objected to high-decibel music being played during the procession.
