The Yankees were given a rude welcome to Canada in game one as they lost to the Blue Jays, 10-1. Former Oriole Kevin Gausman pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball, and the Jays’ bullpen put up 3.1 scoreless to keep the Yankees’ offense in check. Seranthony Domínguez faced two batters and retired both.

Luis Gil started for the Yankees and was not as good as Gausman. He lasted just 2.2 innings and allowed solo homers to Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. and Alejandro Kirk. The real trouble came from the bullpen as the Jays had back-to-back four-run innings in the seventh
