Russell Martin has been sacked as head coach of Rangers, the Ibrox club has confirmed.

The club hierarchy made the decision following the 1-1 draw at Falkirk that leaves the team with only five wins from his 17 games in charge.

The 39-year-old departs Ibrox following a dismal start to the season for the club that provoked fury from the Rangers support.

A club statement released on Sunday night read: “Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with head coach, Russell Martin.

“While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club’s expectations.

“Assistant head coach, Matt Gill, and first-team coach, Mike Williamson, will also be departing.
