MONO COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - There were multiple false SOS calls from the same device in the White Mountains in Mono County on Tuesday, Sept. 30, according to the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team ’s Facebook post.
The first call for help was at 4:06 p.m. and was terminated about two hours later. The operation used almost 13 volunteer hours.
The Garmin InReach activation’s coordinates pinged at the locked gate before Barcroft Research Station.
A rescue base was established at the coordinates, and the team responded with a first-out vehicle, Rescue 3, as well as Rescue 2 towing the 4x4 Ranger.
