RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Raleigh woman becomes one of eight finalists in the NASCAR Powerball Playoff, hoping to win a $1 million prize.

Patricia Hockaday has survived three drawings to stay in the running for the grand prize.

“Oh, my goodness, this is a dream come true,” she said. “I’m carrying the whole state on my back.”

Hockaday entered her Powerball ticket into the second-chance drawing in May. In August, she won a drawing to make the Round of 16, before making it to the Round of 12 in September.

Sunday afternoon at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hockaday and seven other players from across the nation who made it to the Round of 8 will attend the Bank of America ROVAL 400.

Hockaday and her husband attended the race as guests of the N.C. Education Lottery.
