ORANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — A single-engine plane crash near the Orange County and Lawrence County line led to a remarkable rescue effort over the weekend.
Authorities reported that a Lancair fixed-wing aircraft went down late Saturday night. Multiple first responders, including troopers from the Jasper and Bloomington districts, searched the heavily wooded area throughout the night.
The plane was eventually found around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday near Old Vincennes Road in Orange County. The pilot, who survived with non-life-threatening injuries, was discovered inside the aircraft.
Due to the challenging terrain, rescuers had to carry the pilot out on a stretcher. The successful rescue was credited to the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved.
