STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo spoke at a Staten Island church Sunday morning, making a push for voters on the “forgotten borough” during a hotly-contested mayoral race that has shown him running behind Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdami.

A Suffolk University poll released in late September placed Mamdani with 45% of likely voters, 20% points ahead of Cuomo, who captured 25%.

Having made multiple visits to Staten Island over the last several weeks, it appears that the independent candidate is pushing for a more visible presence on a borough where he received more votes than Mamdani in the Democratic primary.

Cuomo may also be trying to nab the support of voters who previously supported Mayor Eric Adams, after the incumbent announced he’d be suspending his camp
