NORFOLK, Va. — The attorney for Seaman Angelina Resendiz’s family tells 13News Now a trial will be moving forward in the case.
Seaman Jermiah Copeland is accused of killing Resendiz in May of this year. She was reported missing from Naval Station Norfolk on May 29, and her body was found in a wooded area off-base in Norfolk on June 9.
Last month, Copeland had a preliminary hearing at Naval Station Norfolk. There, the trial council got the chance to outline their claims against Copeland, citing past assaults Copeland was also being investigated for and giving a timeline of when they believe Angelina Resendiz was killed.
The hearing official in the case gave Copeland’s defense until Sept. 24 to respond to the trial council’s argument.
