Unsurprisingly, Morgan Park’s Ronald Smith Jr. realizes that big moments begin with proper scale.

You see, Smith also plays guitar, so the sophomore quarterback knows all about progressions and chords and reading the action. He brings that mentality onto the football field for the Mustangs.

“I’m capable of making a lot of athletic plays,” said Smith, who checks in at a silky-smooth 6-foot and 170 pounds. “I try to make sure we get as many of those as possible.

“With the big plays, in order to get there, I like to start with the short throws and runs.”

It became a winning combination Saturday as Smith ran for two touchdowns and passed for another in a 50-0 Public League Metro victory over host Lincoln Park in Chicago.
