The body of a Massachusetts teenager who was beaten to death in 1974 was exhumed from a cemetery Wednesday to undergo a new autopsy.

Henry Bedard Jr., 15, was last seen alive on Dec. 16, 1974, on Paradise Road in Swampscott, Massachusetts, after Christmas shopping in Vinnin Square. When the high schooler did not appear for dinner, his family and friends knew something was wrong.

Bedard's body was found the next day in the woods near Suffolk Avenue in an area known as Swampscott View, behind the town's present-day Department of Public Works building.

Investigators said Bedard was beaten with a baseball bat with "unique markings on the handle," which was found near the body, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker said.

Bedard's killer has never been identified.
