President Donald Trump deployed the California National Guard to Oregon hours after a federal judge had ordered the Trump administration to halt its attempt to send 200 Oregon National Guard members to Portland.
The Trump administration is calling in troops to control protests outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland.
Gov. Tina Kotek accused the president of trying to circumvent the ruling .
“There is no need for military intervention in Oregon,” Kotek said. “There is no insurrection in Portland. No threat to national security. ... Oregonians exercising their freedom of speech against unlawful actions by the Trump Administration should do so peacefully.”
