GREENVILLE, Wis. (WBAY) - Veterans from the global war on terrorism returned home from a four-day retreat to New York City on Sunday, armed with a new understanding of how to manage their emotional well-being.
“Trauma is trauma, to be honest with you. Combat trauma is no different than physical trauma that happens to somebody in a car accident or anything. It’s just a different circumstance,” says Michael Desjarlais.
These trips aim to address the mental health issues of veterans who served in America’s longest war. More than half of the nearly 60 service members who took part in the first flight a few years ago reached out for help.
