Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has announced the recommencement of student admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2025-26, following the release of crucial funds by the Union Government that had been withheld for two years. This move comes after a legal battle that reached the Supreme Court, resolving a dispute over the financing of the mandate that requires private schools to provide free education to 25% of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The notification issued by the state government clarified that this special admission window is being opened despite the fact that the general admission process in Tamil Nadu’s schools has already concluded. Eligible students who have already been admitted to schools can now apply for regularization
