New Delhi: India’s state-run telecom operator BSNL is preparing for one of its biggest network upgrades yet. Within the next six to eight months, the company plans to shift all its existing 4G towers to 5G, marking a major milestone for India’s homegrown telecom efforts.

Union communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made the announcement at the fourth Kautilya Economic Conclave, calling the move part of India’s push to develop its own indigenous telecom ecosystem. He credited public sector research and private sector collaboration for the achievement.
