As a little girl she sat on the knee of an uncle she adored and with childish innocence told him "one day I will marry you". The reality would be darker, much darker.
Not long after that moment of family love the abuse began. From the age of seven to 15 Shereen Simmonds was groomed and sexually assaulted by her uncle, Jason Boswell.
She lived with that trauma until 2020 when she made a statement to police. Then she had to wait five years as the wheels of a creaking judicial system processed the case.
Now, 27 years after first being assaulted by Boswell she has seen justice. But it has come at a colossal cost.
