MARQUETTE — Two people were rescued after their sailboat capsized on Lake Superior Thursday evening.
At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, two brothers were rescued from Lake Superior after their sail boat capsized and was damaged. They were sailing from Shot Point to Marquette’s Lower Harbor and back. On the return trip, a gust of wind capsized the boat and damaged the hull.
Both subjects were wearing life jackets and were able to get on top of the overturned vessel. They had stored a cell phone in a dry bag and they were able to use it and call 911 for assistance.
Marquette City Fire Department deployed a personal watercraft and located the subjects. U.S. Coast Guard-Marquette was able to take the two victims onboard. One victim was transported to shore while the boat owner remained with the sheriff
