Writing a sermon for yesterday’s services was tough for leaders of all denominations.

As the mass shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township eight days ago that left four dead, eight injured and the church burned has everyone concerned.

“I’ve been working on my homily — going over different ideas in my head,” Fr. Dave Tomaczycki of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Mount Clemens said during Thursday’s interview.

The new priest, who replaced Fr. John Maksym over the summer is 40-years-old, and while considered young among his fellow clergymen and parishioners he’s been delivering sermons in the church long enough to know this one needs to be hopeful and reassuring.
