A 27-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing her manager at the McDonald’s in Eastpointe where she worked has been found mentally fit to stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.
According to prosecutors, 38th District Court Judge Kathleen Galen, the Center For Forensic Psychiatry delivered its report that stated Afeni Badu Muhammad is mentally competent during a probable cause conference.
The report assessed whether she is capable of understanding the charges against her and able to participate in her own defense. As a result, the criminal charges against her can proceed.
“The finding that the defendant is competent to stand trial ensures that she can now be held accountable through the proper legal process,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a news release.
