Supporters of the Australians detained by Israel after a huge aid flotilla was intercepted en-route to Gaza have claimed they have been subjected to physical and verbal abuse.

Seven Australians have been in custody since October 2, when about 450 activists on board 50 boats were captured by the Israeli navy about 70 kilometres out from Gaza.

Israel says they are "safe and in good health".

However the Global Movement To Gaza has claimed that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade [DFAT] has reached out to them and told them one of the Australians detained, Surya McEwen, has reported physical assault, having his head struck against a concrete surface, arm dislocated and intimidation and verbal abuse.

DFAT said it could not comment on the claims, citing "privacy obligations".
