Dehradun : Uttarakhand, known for its scenic mountains and rich forests, is facing a serious wildlife crisis. In the last 25 years, the state has lost 573 elephants due to unnatural causes. In 2025 alone, 22 elephants have already died — an average of nearly two every month.

The situation has become even more alarming with the death of three elephants in just one week in the Haridwar Forest Division. The third elephant was found dead in Laldhang, raising serious questions about forest safety and conservation.
