Roorkee : In a big step towards a cleaner and greener India, IIT Roorkee has developed eco-friendly tableware using wheat straw — a common crop waste. This breakthrough not only provides an alternative to harmful plastic but also reduces stubble burning, which is a major cause of air pollution in North India.
The innovation has been made by the INNOPAP Lab (Innovations in Paper and Packaging) at IIT Roorkee. The team has worked in partnership with Parason Machinery India Pvt. Ltd., a company based in Aurangabad. Together, they have turned leftover wheat straw into strong, biodegradable plates, bowls, and cups that are safe for food use.
