The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC ) will begin excavating two twin tunnels for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project in early 2026, civic officials said on Saturday, October 4. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is being assembled at the construction site and will be launched from a shaft currently under construction.

On the same day, Mumbai ’s municipal commissioner and state-appointed administrator, Bhushan Gagrani, visited the GMLR and Mumbai Coastal Road Project (Versova-Bhayander) sites to check the quality of civil works.

The BMC imported the TBM from Japan earlier this year. Two TBMs will be used for the twin tunnels, unlike the Mumbai Coastal Road tunnels, which were excavated with a single machine. Spare parts for the machines are being assembled, and the T
