Senators will return to Washington Monday as the government shutdown enters its sixth day, with no budget agreement reached and both parties entrenched in their positions.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump continues his threat of federal worker layoffs, but declined to answer when and which federal agencies could start cutting workers.
"I call them Democrat layoffs," the president told reporters Sunday. "We're doing better than the country has ever done, and the Democrats hate seeing that. It's up to them. Anybody laid off, that's because of the Democrats."
