Information reaching our news desk shows that newly recruited teachers under the Dedza District Council are staging a sit-in at the office of the District Education Officer, demanding payment of their September salaries.

The teachers, who began working on September 5, say they are frustrated by the delay in receiving their wages.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Yunusu Sato said they are seeking justice, especially since some of their colleagues who started at the same time have already been paid.

Dedza District Council spokesperson Chris Salaniponi confirmed the delay, attributing it to administrative issues at the District Education Office, and noted that the situation is not unique to Dedza.

The council has recruited approximately 627 teachers.
