CHICAGO — A driver died early Monday after a "large object" crashed through the person's windshield while the vehicle was travelling southbound along the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police.

The incident occurred along Interstate 94 at 29th Street, police said.

Police said they responded to the scene around 5:10 a.m. Monday and discovered the driver was struck by the object crashing through the windshield.

"The driver was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased," according to ISP.

No further details were immediately available.
