Edinburgh’s Jacob Fearnley is top seed for the Roanne Challenger tennis tournament in France, and is due to start his campaign tomorrow.
First up for the 24-year-old Scot will be Luca van Assche, 21, of France. who has been as high as world No 63 but is now 201. He has wins over top players Musetti and Humbert making this 2021 French Boys singles champion an extremely dangerous rival on his day.
For Jacob it will be a first competitive outing since facing Alexander Zverev at the US Open in late August although he was scheduled to play Davis Cup a couple of weeks later but pulled out due to a rib injury.
During his absence Jacob, ranked world No 49 in mid June, has slipped back to No 80 having been unable to defend points earned on a surge forward last year.
