A deadly crash has shut down a portion of State Road 46 in Sanford after a car went over the Interstate 4 overpass, Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to FHP, the crash happened just after 10 a.m. on Monday.

Troopers say a man driving a 2008 Honda Accord was driving eastbound on I-4 near SR-46 when he ran off the interstate, hit a guardrail, and plummeted onto SR-46.

When the driver's car went over the overpass, FHP says it collided with a 2015 Mercedes Benz that was being driven by a 21-year-old woman on SR-46.

The driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman driving on SR-46 was not injured, FHP says.

Both directions of SR-46 are shut down between Towne Center Boulevard and Wayside Drive.
