Charges are pending for an accused carjacker who allegedly ripped the vehicle’s keys from an 87-year-old woman’s hands outside a store in Oakland County on Sunday, officials said.

According to Michigan State Police, the reported carjacking occurred outside the Dollar Tree store at 8918 W. Eight Mile Rd. in Royal Oak Township, shortly before 1 p.m. on Oct. 5. The victim had described the suspect as a black man with long dreadlocks, wearing a green hoodie. At least two witnesses tried to intervene and block the vehicle as the suspect drove away but were unsuccessful, MSP said.

A witness followed the stolen vehicle, lost sight of it, then subsequently located it in an apartment park lot near the 10000 block of Pasadena Avenue and called police, MSP said.
