Man headed to prison for sexually assaulting kids in his family

A 70-year-old Southfield man is headed to prison for molesting two children in his family.

At a sentencing hearing Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court, Judge Daniel O’Brien ordered Lawrence Miles to spend 25 to 40 years incarcerated for sexually abusing a boy and girl, both under 10 years old at the time. Prosecutors said Miles committed a series of sexual assaults against the children this year and in 2024.

In July, Miles opted out of trial by pleading no contest to three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. The 25- to 40-year sentence is for the first-degree CSC charges; O’Brien also sentenced Miles to 5 to 15 years in prison for the second-degree CSC charges, with all sentences to be served concurrently.
