SPRINGFIELD — The Godfather will be there only in spirit on Saturday night when the Springfield Symphony Orchestra opens their 2025 season with “A Night in Italy: Verdi, Respighi, & Rota.”

The evening will feature memorable music created by Nino Rota for “The Godfather” film as well as highlight Italian composers such as Verdi’s “La Forza Del Destin” as well as Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances” and “Pines of Rome.”

The concert will also feature a collaboration with members of the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestras performing alongside SSO musicians.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

The evening will begin with an Italian-themed pre-concert reception at 6 p.m. in the Mahogany Room, hosted in partnership with Springfield’s Italian Cultural Center. The reception will feature treats from local
