DES MOINES, Iowa —

The Stockham House, a cultural landmark in Des Moines, has been relocated and refurbished, ready to welcome a new family after decades of serving various community roles.

Originally built in 1894 on 28th Street, the house was moved in the 1960s to University Avenue to accommodate Drake University's expansion. Throughout its history, it has served as a religious center, apartments, and commercial space.

Invest DSM purchased the house in 2021 and, in December 2024, it was moved to 26th Street to hopefully house one lucky family .

Chaden Halfhill of Silent Rivers Design+Build, the redesign company that worked on the house, said, "The last year has been refurbishing all of the main amenities, the kitchen, the bathrooms."
