For being found drug-impaired while driving, Michael Jalbert has been fined $1,000 and lost his driver’s licence for a year.

“I just want to say sorry for my actions and wasting the court’s time,” Jalbert told Ontario Court Justice Pierre Bradley via Zoom link in Sudbury just before being sentenced. “I’m very ashamed and embarrassed of myself. I plan to not let this happen again.”

Jalbert, 36, of Skead, had pleaded guilty to drug-impaired driving for what happened in Sudbury on April 26 when a police officer noticed he was driving and nodding off.

“These are very serious facts,” Bradley told Jalbert. “You were lucky on the day in question nobody got hurt, including yourself.”

The Crown and defence lawyer Riaz Timol suggested the penalties.
