JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) — The Janesville Police Department is alerting residents to a rise in fraud schemes targeting the elderly.
These scams are causing significant financial losses by exploiting fear and urgency, according to Lt. Jennifer Seeger.
"Victims have been tricked into withdrawing or transferring large sums of money, sometimes losing their entire savings," Seeger said in a press release.
Scammers are impersonating government agents, bank employees, or tech support professionals. They manipulate victims with stories about hacked bank accounts or compromised computers.
"Awareness and early conversations are key to prevention," said Seeger.
