ROSCOMMON COUNTY — Firefighters are working to contain a wildfire burning near Houghton Lake as dry conditions and high winds continue to elevate fire danger across much of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

Per an Oct. 6 news release from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the blaze was reported Sunday afternoon east of Old U.S. Highway 27 near the Clare–Roscommon county line, and has burned an estimated 85 acres in a marshy area of mixed pine and hardwood forest, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The cause remains under investigation.
