NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - The Elm City is looking to keep people safe during National Fire Prevention Week by sharing resources and safety tips.
New Haven’s mayor and fire chief are emphasizing the importance of smoke alarms.
So far this year in the Elm City, the fire department has responded to close to 200 fires.
In addition to promoting smoke alarms and safety plans, officials also touched on making sure you don’t overload surge protectors when decorating for the upcoming holidays.
The fire chief said that hoarding is becoming a more common danger on calls. Hoarding puts lives at risk by making it difficult for firefighters to reach trapped residents.
