It was a big signing Monday in Oil Country.

Shortly after news broke of the Connor McDavid extension broke, the club also extended a key piece of the Edmonton blueline for the next seven seasons.

Jake Walman inked a seven-year, $49m contract with an AAV of $7m.

Walman arrived in Edmonton just before the playoffs in a deal with San Jose. And he immediately made a big impact. The numbers on their own were great (2-8-10 in 22 GP, +9). But he also swallowed up 22+ minutes per night in all three disciplines. And in the post season, all of that is against elevated competition. But what the numbers do not show is how Walman laid it on the line every night, adding a gritty style of play and shot-blocking in critical moments.
