MAINE, USA — Maine State Auditor Matt Dunlap announced Monday that he will run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, setting up a Democratic primary challenge to incumbent Rep. Jared Golden .
Dunlap, a Democrat and longtime figure in Maine politics, said he entered the race because “Mainers are stuck with skyrocketing health care costs, a government shutdown, and a broken Congress.”
“Jared Golden caved to Trump instead of fighting for us,” Dunlap said in a social media post announcing his candidacy . “That’s why I’m running — because the people of Maine’s 2nd deserve a leader who will stand strong, protect our health care, and never put Trump’s demands ahead of our families.”
Golden, who has represented the district since 2018, responded Monday
