GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a scam involving callers who are impersonating deputies.

The department said in a press release on Monday that officers have received several reports in recent weeks of people falsely claiming to be deputies, demanding money and threatening victims with arrest if they don’t comply.

They say the scammers have also tried to collect payments through wire transfers, gift cards, and other untraceable methods.

Sheriff Del Garcia says he wants to emphasize that no deputy or employee at the department will ever call and demand a payment or personal financial information.

“Our priority is protecting our community, and that includes making sure people are not taken advantage of by these scams.
