EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The new Vanderburgh County Jail expansion has moved one step closer to completion.

Monday, construction crews put up the first beam of the new portion of the building.

Captain Dave Guetling and Chief Deputy Nathan Sugarman had the opportunity to set one of the beams themselves!

Officials say the new construction will add 172 beds, including a dedicated mental health unit, helping meet the needs of our inmates and our community.
