Syracuse, N.Y. ― The mother of a Syracuse murder victim told the man who pleaded guilty to possessing the murder weapon that she forgives him.
Vanico Spaights, 22, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon the day he was scheduled to begin his second murder trial.
Judge Gordon Cuffy on Monday sentenced Spaights to 10 years in prison.
Spaights was one of three people accused of the murder of A’salic Parham , 25, in the 600 block of Ballantyne Road on the city’s South Side on Dec. 28, 2020.
At Spaights’ sentencing, Parham’s mother said that she chose to forgive all three people accused of her son’s murder so she would be able to sleep at night.
