ST. CHARLES COUNTY — The Francis Howell School District has fired a custodian charged in connection with racist graffiti scrawled in a high school bathroom two weeks ago.

Board of Education President Steven Blair said the board voted unanimously to terminate Tyler Carter in a meeting the day after Carter was hit with felony charges for property damage and harassment motivated by discrimination on Oct 1.

Carter, 25, worked the afternoon shift as a custodian at Francis Howell High. District officials previously said Carter had been placed on leave.

On Sept. 23, according to court records, Carter entered several classrooms and bathrooms and wrote racially derogatory statements on bathroom walls and stalls. He also wrote sexually explicit words in several foreign language classrooms, police
