TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A tradition carried on by a Tuscaloosa church brought pets together with animal lovers in west Alabama.

Christ Episcopal Church welcomed pet lovers to Capital Park in Tuscaloosa for the Blessing of the Pets.

The blessing of the pets is rooted in religion. It’s centered around the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi who is considered one of the patron saints of animals.

“We love our animals. There’s a connection with our animals that’s really unlike no other. So, it’s a way to recognize that and then recognize the holiness in that,” explained Rev. Paul Pradat, the Rector of Christ Episcopal Church.

Pets can be a bridge to bring people together.

Reverend Pradat added many see how the bond between people and their pets brings joy and unconditional love.
