BOSTON — As the Red Sox’ offseason gets underway following a disappointing loss to the Yankees in the Wild Card Series next week, decisions loom for veterans Alex Bregman and Trevor Story. Both infielders have the ability to opt out of their contracts within five days of the conclusion of the World Series, and at this point, are not guaranteed to be under Red Sox control as hot stove season begins.
Neither Bregman nor Story said much about their impending opt-out decisions after Boston’s Game 3 loss in the Bronx on Thursday . On Monday, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow was also mum.
“I have not had the chance to draw conclusions about those things,” Breslow said. “Those are obviously decisions for them to make. At this time, I think everyone will say that they were focused on tryi
