SEATTLE — A lifelong Seattle Mariners fan is going viral after TV cameras caught him wiping away tears of joy during the ALDS game Sunday.
Saul Spady, who grew up in Seattle and is one of the grandsons of the founder of Dick’s Drive-In, attended the game with his fiancée, Shakira Erickson. The pair were swept up in the moment as the Mariners took the lead for good in the second ALDS game against the Detroit Tigers.
“And like, if you've been a Mariners fan, like there's crying in baseball. There is so much crying,” Spady said. “As a Mariners fan … Cal hit the double, and he did what he's done all year, and then Julio did it. And, you know, you just gotta cry, man. I guess it's really stupid, but that's — I'm a Mariners fan.”
