MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – McKinley County District Attorney Bernadine Martin is continuing the fight to keep her job. Martin not only denies the allegations in a petition to remove her from office, but she's also accused New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez of violating her constitutional rights. Torrez moved to oust Martin from her elected position at Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's request.
In his August filing, Torrez called Martin "unfit for the office," writing she created a hostile work environment, failed to work with witnesses or issue subpoenas on time, leading to case dismissals, and misused taxpayer dollars.
