Perth’s renovation sector has officially smashed the $1 billion threshold, as hordes of homeowners opt to fix what they’ve got rather than face the property market’s near-record low listings.

New data from the Housing Industry Association shows WA’s renovation market hit $1.152 billion last financial year, up from $980 million the year before.

There are only 3239 properties listed for sale this week, well below the 14,000 listings at the end of each month in the decade to 2019.

With the 270,000 population boost over the past five years, there are now 736 people per listed dwelling, compared with 151 people per house for sale in 2019.
