If you're keen to savour the autumnal hues with a brisk walk, there's one spot in Ayrshire that should be on your list. ‌

Troon , better known for its popular beaches, also boasts the Smugglers' Trail, a walk that encompasses an ancient woodland and offers stunning views of the Firth of Clyde. ‌

Starting at Dundonald Castle , the route traces the path once used in the 18th century to transport tea, wine, brandy, rum and tobacco inland from cargo boats arriving in Troon. ‌

The trail covers varied terrain, from woodland paths and tarmac roads to long grass and stretches of sand, passing a quiet reservoir, Fullarton Woods, Royal Troon Golf Course, and finishing along Troon's sandy beach.
