HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - Haywood County officials shared the progress being made on the installation of a new emergency siren system .

Officials said the audible sirens will alert residents when floodwaters are rising.

The poles for the sirens went into the ground in August. Last week, officials said that the first of many emergency outdoor warning sirens for the county was installed in Cruso.

Once complete, county officials said that 18 outdoor sirens will serve the southern portion of Haywood County, including Cruso, Lake Logan, areas toward Canton and Clyde.
