Spirit Airlines will be conducting mass furloughs in Nevada as the troubled carrier navigates its second bankruptcy in a year.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation posted on Sept. 29 that Spirit Airlines has filed notice with the agency that it will furlough just under 400 employees in the state.
Companies are required under the 1989 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act to file a 60-day WARN notice for any mass employment loss. Although WARN filings are typically made for layoffs, furloughs can also be included if they meet certain criteria, such as significant work-hour reductions.
